Donovan Scott Lipscombe Covarrubias

My artwork creates life. Oftentimes when creating artwork I take inspiration from emotions and every shape, color, and idea associated with them. Emotion is the basis of living, humanity, and survival; in turn it becomes the root of my artwork. While my mediums vary, the process behind creation is the same. If my goal is to tell a story, to create a costume, to sculpt a sculpture, it all is seen through the lens of how it makes others as well as myself feel.

Processing and analyzing human emotion, particularly within myself, has become an integral part of how I view and find peace within the world. From a young age, I was made to feel a range of negative emotions, many of which I did not dissect for years. Theater came to me in my youth as a form of not only individual expression, but as a medication. Through my youth I was able to use theater to mentally escape daily struggles and in growing up to find more forms of theater/art, my goal has become flipped onto my audience. On a stage, behind it, in a sculpture, or in writing I aim to provide an escape from negative emotions to the viewers of my artwork. I tell a story of a different world, a different life, a place that someone can invest themselves in to provide relief for any individual difficulties, even if temporary.
